I recently staged a beautiful First Neighborhood home in Westlake Village. The owner, an architect, has lovingly crafted this 4 + 3 beauty into a mid-century modern gem. My job: using the homeowners existing furniture, art and accessories, to punch up the volume while eliminating the extraneous.
After consulting on minor updates (we painted the master bathroom vanity a rich espresso brown and re-glazed the formica counter) I came in to stage!
Rearranging furniture was the first order of business. The owner had moved her bed into a secondary bedroom. It was back to the master for her furniture! I also swapped living room and family room furniture.
HOME STAGING TIPS: This can be typical of what we home stagers see: too-specific furniture placement that makes sense for the homeowner won’t make sense to a prospective buyer. Bring your rooms back to their specific use before you list your home.
Removing various pieces of personal art and accessories was next. The owner’s style definitely suited her background and lifestyle but was not conducive for our model home update! I turned up the contemporary charm by incorporating lots of texture and simple (but oversized) shapes. My staging melded perfectly with the owner’s hand-crafted Plexiglass art as well as many colorful pieces (which were also created by our very artistic homeowner).
